The object within the city, part of the everyday landscape. Seen by many, realised by few, maybe you? Find this object and reveal it yourself.

The exhibition space. Dealing with this environment entailed a completely different approach to previous works. The object functions to transpond the documentation of the process that has proceeded it. With the space allocated on the wall I have tried to overwhelm the viewer as much as possible, placing them in "my" environment while they interact.

What comes across as a very formal structure, evenly spaced wooden crafted box blinds hinged to the wall. I feel it deserves the space it resides in, a "gift to the city". Its not really a gift to the city though, a gift is willingly received, we don't give the city a choice, this object belongs here, communicating our aesthetic. Why do we not all posses this ability to visually communicate throughout the city we inhabit.

The most public of spaces (the middle of Cuba Street) and our most brazen instillation. It is impossible to ignore, everybody reacts in at least one way - weather it simply be walking through, around or under or just stopping in a daze of confusion, questioning how/why the object came to be where it is. Even with the human involvement removed this object has interesting qualities, specifically the way it dances in the Wellington wind.

The wall of opportunity, three perfect holes where bricks have fallen out and pigeons have moved in. Positioned between Vivian and Jessie Street this wall adorns plenty of traditional graffiti as well as some more interesting painted characters. Experience takes a back seat in this piece, the more prominent concern being the manipulation of the pre-existing environment with our crafted objects. On close inspection there is a certain beauty about the perfect box form jutting from the deteriorated brick wall, it's almost as if the box's have punched through the building from the inside.

"The relationship between art, society and the environment. In 1980 Agnes Denes suggested that the new role of the artist is to create art that is more than decoration, commodity or political tool." This instillation also initiates a conciouss decision, do you go around it or over it?

Continuing narrative, re-inventing objects in the familiar environment. This object is placed around the corner from where OF_VF.4 (Dixon Street) was installed. The change of material and the way it is used will hopefully engage more interaction.

Situated on a Garrett Street wall. "For one reason, these works are products that exist externally and physically. In common conception, the work of art is often identified with the building, book, painting or statue in its existence apart from human experience. (Art as Experience, John Dewey)

On the same street and footpath of OF_VF.4 we placed two flaps. These are in a way a time piece. They don't really get noticed at all but as we add to this street hopefully people become more and more aware of whats around them and take notice in some way, possibly even interact. If they do there might be something worth finding behind that black flap.

Exploring ideas about time, space and experience. Situated on a busy terrace footpath, frequented morning and night by Victoria University students and business people. The materials used can best be explained in way similar to how Richard Long uses his "I use stones because I like stones or because they're easy to find, without being anything special, so common that you can find them anywhere." There is of course a certain irony that these people choose to (or not) walk through plastic that was found in a skip outside a kindergarten.

The blank canvas, a work to facilitate human interaction in a specific spatial area and social context. Interaction was achieved through hinges lifting the box from the wall, this movement revealed a question "what just happened?". The purpose of this was to cause reflection and/or perception of ones own mental state during the action and experience of this piece.

Moments of interest where they shouldn't be. A protrusion into public space or "Non-Place" as Marc Augé would say. This object functions in peoples paths, it rewards peoples inquisitive nature in an area of "Automation". The object was constructed as a hollow elongated rectangle made from oiled plywood on a hinge with the ability to be pushed and pulled.

The causes of mental states will be objects and events in the persons environment (The Nature of Mind, D.M Armstrong). The idea is simple and the way we executed it was even more so. This first (crude) attempt to transform the landscape with a simple object in a place where it shouldn't be and have no reason to be. (return me to the woods - anonymous passer by)
